Recently, we opened our e-commerce store front and ever since we have been receiving feedback from friends and well-wishers. The biggest concern that we have heard has been price. Thus far, we have not done a good job in getting across the value proposition of a BHS meal. The cost of a BHS meal is approx $7.00 plus shipping. By looking at the products and the prices on the website, very few people have made that connection. They merely see the price tag of $16-$17 for chicken or beef entrées and $10 for rice. $27 seems to be high number for a tray of chicken and a tray of rice. However, when you consider that the combination makes 4 complete and large meals, we believe for the value received, it is a very good price.
To make the case for the value provided by a BHS meal one needs to place the meal in the context of something we are all familiar with and comparable to a BHS meal. One comparable is a meal taken out from a restaurant or a meal purchased from the freezer section of a grocery store. We believe that in comparison to both of these examples BHS meals provide an excellent value.
Comparison to frozen meal from a grocery store:
If we compare our meals with grocery store frozen entrées, there are three aspects of a BHS meal that’s different from the meals purchased from a grocery store:
Meal size & Price: one big difference is our meal is a large meal (approx. 25% more in weight than a typical frozen meal one can buy at the grocery store) and more than likely one will be fully satisfied as a complete meal and not go hungry rest of the evening. A typical low-end frozen meal entrée costs approximately $2.50 at the grocery store, while a high-end grocery store frozen meal typically costs $5.50. These meals are however significantly smaller in size than a $7.00 BHS meal. And they don’t typically make a complete and satisfying meal. The four meals that one can make out of our combo package on the other hand provide a full and satisfying dining experience.
Quality: Exceptional quality of our entrées is not comparable to the frozen meals from the grocery stores. Anyone who has tried our BHS meal would agree with us on this point. Routinely our customers purchase BHS products to serve their guests in their parties. When is the last time one of us served our party guests proudly frozen meals purchased from a grocery store?
Convenience: BHS meals are delivered to your home. What is that convenience worth to you? When you add shipping, the per-meal cost becomes $10.00 per meal. At that price point, we feel it is still a good value, but only if you truly enjoy the BHS experience. It assumes a lesser value if it is just another meal for you.
Comparison to restaurant take-out:
BHS meals are a better value than a typical restaurant take-out for the following reasons:
Meal size and Price: WE have weighed a typical restaurant serving for a chicken entrée at around 16 oz priced at around $12.00 for middle of the road Indian restaurant. That translates into $30.00 for a tray of chicken entrée comparable to the 2.5 lb tray of chicken korma one can buy from BHS. The price of chicken/Pulao combination that BHS is selling for $27.00 is approximately $40-$45 from a restaurant take out for comparable amount of food. That translates into $10-$11 per meal.
Quality of ingredients: Because BHS products are made at a USDA supervised manufacturing plant, BHS products have to abide by strict USDA manufacturing and labeling standards; you know exactly what you are buying. You have no idea what goes into a restaurant meal.
Quality of dining experience: Our customers tell us routinely (and we agree) that a BHS meal experience is superior to any previous Indian restaurant meal experience they ever had. The fact that out customers are routinely serving BHS products in their parties proudly and recommending the BHS products to their friends attests to our believe that BHS entrees are providing a dining experience superior to a restaurant take-out.
Convenience: BHS meals are delivered to your home. You can stock it and is ready and available anytime you want.
