My wife and I are Singaporeans who happened to have a chance to experience Basu’s Homestyle products in LA recently during our visit to LA. So this the impression of a Singaporean of Basu’s Homestyle products.
From a Singaporean point of view, this is something ingeniously refreshing for the minimum and painstakingly thoughtful for the most of it. Basu Home Style combines the authentic flavors of Indian (particularly Bengali) foods with a fine touch of wholesomeness and precision. There must have been many years of culinary experience and a lot of research put into whipping up these dishes. And on first taste, these dishes are literally “unheard of” when it comes to frozen foodstuff.
Don’t ask me why, but you can almost taste the heart and soul of the chefs in the BHS foods. Particularly, I am a fan of the chicken Korma and Pulao… dishes where I wouldn’t have otherwise given a try, even in this multicultural city of Singapore, where the Indian community is the third largest ethnic race. Singaporeans are so pampered with great foods in its own country, usually due to the local inclination toward savory and spicy foods, but Basu’s Home Style just has something different – distinctly, it does not have some of those “raw, biting” aftertaste that comes with most South Indian foods. The chutney is also something not found commonly here, but scores well for being a side-dish.
To sum it up, Singapore is a cauldron of many Asian food cultures, and BHS definitely delivers a good thumbs-up for the liking of any South Asians – people who are so very accustomed to spicy foods. What with the nice packaging that makes for a great family meal, and the easy preparation, this is going to be well-received among those homemakers who want quick preparation (the ingredients involved will be no joke!) of a full course meal and among those pot-luck styled party organisers.
You see, you can almost smell and taste the personality of the creators from the food - the hospitality, friendliness and punctiliousness of the family - BHS foods are oozing abundantly with them.
From Singapore, with Love.
Regards,
Cedric & Lisa
